Spin Fishing
In spin fishing, the casting of a weighted hook is what propels the lure to its location.
Some say spin fishing got the name due to spinnerbait. Spinnerbait is a type of lure that spins through the water with the goal of movement attracting a fish. Others think spin fishing got the name due to the type of reel used – a spinning reel.
Either way, it’s a peaceful way to spend time outside with your favorite people.
CYO’s Spin Fishing Program
Once you understand the basics of setting up the rod, we will work on a smooth overhead cast directing your lure towards its target. As it hits the water, you will engage the reel and begin the retrieve.
CYO uses fishing lures to teach spin fishing. Our ponds are catch and release only, no license is required.
CYO’s 3-week spin fishing curriculum:
Week one will cover safety aspects and the 3 major skills necessary to be proficient: rod and reel anatomy and knot tying (Clinch knot), casting and retrieval and pond ecology.
Week 2 will involve a safety and skills review. Participants spend time practicing their newly learned skills on the water.
Week 3 will conclude the class with a friendly fishing competition and further instruction on skills (as needed). This class is meant to be fun and to encompass all 4 aspects of PACD: Share your experiences, Be Grateful, Stay Positive and Be Present.
