Small Bore
Small Bore is a firearm with lower-caliber shot. The ‘bore’ refers to the diameter of the gun barrel and, in turn, the diameter of the bullet. Small bore guns in hunting have a range of 100 yards or less, and are typically used for small game (rabbits, squirrels, etc).
Small Bore can also refer to a .22 caliber rifle shooting competition, where still targets are placed at various distances.
CYO’s Small Bore Shooting Program
CYO uses .22 diameter caliber rifles with single-shot bolt action. In our small bore shooting course, you will take aim at still targets.
CYO teaches the basics of small bore shooting to teens and adults. All equipment, including earplugs and safety glasses, will be provided. We’ll talk about breathing, aiming, trigger control and follow through.
CYO Fort Collins teaches small bore at an on campus shooting range. CYO Colorado Springs hosts small bore classes at Colorado Parks & Wildlife.
CYO’s 3-Week Small Bore curriculum:
Week 1 will primarily cover safety aspects, including range protocols, firearm components, MAST, and the 8 shooting fundamentals.
Week 2 will involve a safety review and practical exercises. You will practice and receive individual instruction.
Week 3 concludes the class with a ‘fun target’ shooting session and instructions on how to clean and maintain firearms correctly.
