CORE

Love To Get A Deal?

If you’re the type who buys in bulk, clips coupons, brags about how you talked the car dealership down . . . have we got a deal for you!

CORE at CYO, a class for teens and their adult, is a bargain at twice the price.

This spring, we will teach fly tying, shooting .22s, and fly fishing, which includes:

Small Bore

6 hours of fly tying, building 6 different flies together. Equipment and instruction provided.

6 hours of shooting .22s, includes eye & ear protection, gun, bullets and instruction.

6 hours of fly fishing, all equipment, instruction, and water access provided.

CYO charges $300 for a pair, which includes all equipment necessary, all instruction, and access to our private campus. Scholarships available on a sliding scale. This does not cover our cost of CORE (more on that below), but we want to make our program accessible to all. Why? Because everyone can benefit from a better relationship!

Where else could you learn the same info?

There are many great local fly shops, and we hope one day you find yourself inside one of them! A three hour fly tying class is is approximately $75/person, about enough time to tie three flies. ($150 for two people)

Shooting .22s – We haven’t found a class exactly comparable to ours. But an intro to guns class would be a good start, two hours for about $50. You can also shoot at a local gun range or club: 2 ppl for an hour seems to run $45 . . . $25 for gun rental. To get specific feedback, you probably need to hire a private instructor. We did not price that out. (6hrs of shooting + two gun rentals = $320 minimum for two people, no instruction)

Fly fishing brings us back to those local fishing shops. Our favorite shop in town hosts a four hour intro class (mostly classroom) for $125 person. Fly fishing school is four hours in a classroom, four hours on the water for $175/person. ($600 for two people)

$1,070 for the two of you to go out together and learn (roughly) similar things to what will be taught at CYO our spring semester. It does not include our relationship-building curriculum (PACD), which is a tool to create quality conversations together.

But wait, there’s more!

The COST to put on CORE (paying & training instructors, equipment, maintenance, printing, etc etc etc) currently hovers around $900/pair.

Here is the crux of being a nonprofit. We believe EVERY family that goes through CORE benefits from the experience. Because $900/pair is too much of an ask, we find other ways to make up the difference.

At CYO, we are passionate about the value of time spent together, and we use traditional outdoor recreation as the tool to do that. Our program works because we’re all out there having fun together!

It’s truly not fair to compare cost-wise what we do at a nonprofit to our local fishing stores and gun ranges — they need to stay open by making a profit. At CYO, we rally behind the cause of bringing teens, parents, families together. . . and ask for donations to keep us operating.

We hope you’ll consider joining us for this screaming deal of an offer: Time Well Spent with your teen for the bargain-basement cost of $300.
