Way back in May, we had a ‘lil sprout of an idea — wouldn’t it be cool to grow a field of pumpkins?
We bought a whole bunch of pumpkin seeds, all sorts of varieties . . . and then it rained for 3 weeks. It was mid-June before the seeds made it into the ground. We planted an acre, we fought with the sprinkler system, and we hoped.
That little sprout of an idea grew into a muddy mess of seedlings. The seedlings grew into tendrils, vines, and bright orange blossoms. In August, we had a field of platter-sized leaves . . . with the occasional hint of color and shadow that something might be growing below.
We don’t totally believe it ourselves, but our one-acre field might have as many as 5,000 pumpkins! Which forced us into an entirely new brainstorm:
What do we do with 5,000 pumpkins????
