Hay!
Did you know that, along with 12 ponds, an archery range, gun range and BB gun gallery, CYO maintains 60 acres of agricultural land? 40 acres are exclusively hay production.
CYO is proud to be the steward of the Swift Ponds property; it’s a rewarding relationship and a constant challenge! Our farming efforts to date have run the gamut on creativity, but the hay bales are the only thing that have actually turned a (small) profit.
Irregardless, we sure have a good time thinking up alternate uses for our hay bales before we haul ’em off to the cows . . .
Making Hay While the Sun Shines
We found ourselves making an impromptu hay ride this summer when kids with physical disabilities visited CYO. A trailer, a golf cart, some hay bales — fun! And, it turned out to be a super way to move summer campers to safety during a thunderstorm. #winning
Hit the Hay
We host a 3D Archery shoot in august. Our hay rounds make excellent arrow-catchers when one misses the target completely (so I’ve heard).
Can you believe there was a panther and a doll sheep amongst our hay bale staging area? At the same time! Archers were ducking around those bales like James Bond sneaking into a royal banquet. Hope you were there.
Hay-larious
Well, we sure had fun shooting archery. But come fall, we’re decorating for our shin-dig to celebrate all things country: The Scoot!
Let me tell you. . . nothing puts you in the shin-dig mood quite like walking past a bunch of hay bales (the feeling can be enhanced with a Coors Banquet). Yeehaw!
What the Hay?
Did you know CYO is growing an experimental pumpkin patch? There are pumpkins out there, we’re not sure
how many. BUT – if we invite folks out to pick a pumpkin, you can bet your last dollar there will be a some hay bales, tastefully surrounded by pumpkins, all lined up for you to sit for a heartwarming family portrait. BYO pumpkin spice latte.
The Last Straw
And before you know it, the holiday season is upon us. Hay bales fancy up Santa’s little red truck at NoCo Winter Wonderland, our half-mile of holiday magic that runs Thanksgiving through Christmas.
Hay bales also prove to be extremely effective at blocking things. Our mischievous elves aren’t always ready for the public eye.
Gotta Bail!
Alas, the hay bales eventually make the trip across County Road 5 where they meet their final client. Yum!
