2013 Volunteer Menu
Fall and Spring 12 Week Program
-Trap Shooting, Fly Casting, Fly Tying, Archery and Spin Fishing. Colorado Youth Outdoors provides a basic introduction to traditional outdoor activities as a way of serving their mission of building healthy relationships between high school age students and their parents. To provide a safe environment, we are often in need of volunteers to provide an extra set of eyes to make sure firearms, bows and fishing rods are handled correctly.
-Mentor Program. Parents are required to attend all Colorado Youth Outdoors programs with their student but often cannot due to work schedules and other commitments. When this situation is presented, we turn to volunteer mentors to attend CYO with a student so they can still enjoy the program. Volunteer mentors must be available to attend the every 12 week program activity and must meet with Colorado Youth Outdoors staff.
Adventure Series and Sportsman Outreach
-Waterfowl Hunting, Ice Fishing, Big Game Hunting and Pheasant Hunting opportunities offered to CYO families that have completed the 12 week program. Adventure Series activities are set up by Colorado Youth Outdoors and paid for by those who participant in them.
-CYO is in need of unique sportsman activities that can provide a positive experience for those participate in them. Sportsman’s activities like guided hunts that introduce participants to a sport they can enjoy for the rest of their life and help drive the outdoor industry through license sales and equipment purchases.
Education through Recreation
-Unique field trips offered to local high schools where freshman get the chance to fish, target shoot with BB guns, learn the basics of archery with other activities. This program also serves as a recruiting tool for the fall/spring 12 week program. Education through Recreation fields trip typically take place in the spring.
The Maverick Shoot
-Colorado Youth Outdoors annual sporting clays event held at Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch over the first weekend of May. There is always a need for volunteers to help operate the sporting clays course and assist with the auction banquet. This is an excellent opportunity for group volunteerism by other non-profit agencies, conservation organizations, government agencies and others looking to volunteer with friends and coworkers.
Colorado Youth Outdoors at Swift Ponds
-Colorado Youth Outdoors at Swift Ponds is a 240 acre outdoor education park that caters to sportsman outreach events, youth oriented non-profit gatherings and Colorado Youth Outdoors program activities. The property features 12 fishing ponds, trap range, archery range, open air structures, modern restrooms and campfire pits. Maintaining a property this size is often overwhelming for Colorado Youth Outdoors staff so there is always a need for mowing, tree removal, weed control, fisheries consulting, fence repair and trash removal. Swift Ponds is a private facility.
- Swift Ponds is available for corporate volunteer events with projects to match almost any philanthropic interest.
