Introduction to Waterfowl Hunting
CYO held it’s first Introduction to Waterfowl Hunting class on Tuesday Oct 9th. The class covered duck identification, license/stamp purchase, Colorado and federal waterfowl regulations, flyways, shot shell selection and clothing choices. This class was taught by current CYO Program Instructor Greig McAlpin and is the first of 2 classes and 4 hunts designed to further the mission of CYO. This class also offers CYO participants the oppurtunity to learn waterfowl hunting through direct instruction in a low pressure environment. The 2nd class will include firearm safety, blind safety, possesion limits, decoy strategy and a calling demonstration. Of the 4 hunts scheduled; 2 will be duck oriented and 2 will be goose oriented. These hunts include both private and public land. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers will host a public land hunt at the Wellington State Wildlife Area in an effort to further develope their own hunter outreach strategies. This class will also further CYO’s effort in demonstrating that partnerships between non-proft organizations, state agencies and industrustry leaders are the key to getting kids and thier parents off the couch and into the field.
