CYO held it’s first Introduction to Waterfowl Hunting class on Tuesday Oct 9th. The class covered duck identification, license/stamp purchase, Colorado and federal waterfowl regulations, flyways, shot shell selection and clothing choices. This class was taught by current CYO Program Instructor Greig McAlpin and is the first of 2 classes and 4 hunts designed to further the mission of CYO. This class also offers CYO participants the oppurtunity to learn waterfowl hunting through direct instruction in a low pressure environment. The 2nd class will include firearm safety, blind safety, possesion limits, decoy strategy and a calling demonstration. Of the 4 hunts scheduled; 2 will be duck oriented and 2 will be goose oriented. These hunts include both private and public land. Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers will host a public land hunt at the Wellington State Wildlife Area in an effort to further develope their own hunter outreach strategies. This class will also further CYO’s effort in demonstrating that partnerships between non-proft organizations, state agencies and industrustry leaders are the key to getting kids and thier parents off the couch and into the field. For more information, please contact Colorado Youth Outdoors at 970-663-0800 or bwright@coloradoyo.org.

Friends of CYO

I want to make sure you know how important you are to the success of Colorado Youth Outdoors. Success is measured in many different ways from participants truly sharing the gift of time building relationships, to established relationships with donors, to our fabulous volunteers who commit their time through our relationships, you all are what make up this wonderful family of CYO. You guessed it, this message is all about relationships and for those who we share a relationship with, Thank you.

Enjoy your families; enjoy our outdoors and God Bless.

Bob

Colorado Youth Outdoors Open House

July 17, 2012

What a wonderful turnout for our first of what should be annual event. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend for taking time out of your day to celebrate relationships through CYO. Actually that pretty much sums up our organization, “finding time to spend with those you’re really care about and building a relationship”….How Perfect! We also want to thank our (3) business partners helping us make it such a fabulous evening.

Grimm Brothers; brewery has donated to CYO many times and each time we become more impressed with their products and following. The event was scheduled to last until 8:30 and by 7:30 all the Grimm was gone…..Wow…..one of two things happened, we either have too many lushes on the friends list or their product is just that darn good. Luckily we had a few domestic brews to fill the gap but next time we probably need to be prepared with kegs.

Nordy’s BBQ; is another donor somewhat synonymous with CYO. We look forward to finding more ways to work together and partner. Nordy’s pulled out all the stops with their smoked pork (whole pig with apple in mouth) sides and table needs. Catering for Nordy’s might not be the first thing you think of with two wonderful restaurants in the area. Catering from Nordy’s should now be your first choice in your large event planning and needs as they truly blew us away with their food.

FLEXX Productions, a name that has been associated to CYO event planning for over 10 years now. Just when we think we have all the facilities needs covered its FLEXX who comes through to make it truly special. The sounds systems and audio devices always seem to be in stock and available when we call for their assistance.

We might make it look easy to hold events such as our open house events but really it’s about our sponsors and how easy they make it for us. You too can look like you have your act together by going no further than calling these three sponsors. What more do you need then beer – BBQ-and a tent to put it all under for a successful party. When you book any of these partners please pass along a word of thanks for their support of CYO.

The education / admin building is next in line for construction. We will not be breaking ground on this building until the necessary funding is raised. CYO will need to raise just over 1 Million to insure we can start and finish without any interruptions. Currently over $250,000.00 has been pledged in either matched cash or in-kind. Watch for our Capital Campaign information quickly coming for everyone to find their fit into this wonderful addition to the facility.

Fall Registration in Full Swing

To date we have over half of our capacity signed up for our upcoming fall program. The program begins Wednesday, August 29th and runs through early November. It is important for those interested in being a participant this fall to register as soon as possible to insure space availability. Should this fall not work out; remember we offer a spring program as well.

To all of the passionate sponsors of Colorado Youth Outdoors through the fundraising event The Maverick, I would like to Thank You. This years event was yet another record breaker. Record attendance, record funds raised and even record warm temperatures to go with the event. The Maverick would not be anything like it is without you. Your sponsorship and support not only allows us to provide such a venue, but more importantly allows us to do what we do best, invest in relationships between youth and their parents through traditional outdoor recreation. We are also very fortunate to have proud event sponsors, Johns Manville – Anadarko – CZ USA. We hope to see you all next spring with your shooting skills tuned up and ready to have a “BLAST”

On behalf of the Board members, Staff, Volunteers and Participants of Colorado Youth Outdoors; We say Thank You.

Enjoy your families, enjoy our outdoors and God Bless

In October, 2011; CYO and Colorado Pheasants Forever along with Colorado Parks and Wildlife held a pheasant hunt for Adventure Series CYOers at the Wellington State Wildlife Area. Several birds were harvested and everyone involved had a great day. This partnership provides an excellent example of how organizations work together to increase hunter outreach and education.

Far too often I find that our organization has communicated information worth celebrating to audiences that are too specific. Meaning the organization of CYO has grown to where we now have many audiences with much more broad landscapes. In May, after the completion of the 2011 Maverick, we wrote this letter to the participants (audience) of the event. I believe this letter is worthy of all audiences as it demonstrates another point of celebration for the organization which is everyone who is interested in the promotion / growth of our Mission. So whether you are a participant of our programming, a sponsor of any fashion, an interested by stander or a passionate person hoping to find your fit into the organization I believe you will agree that his information is worth celebrating.

This year we celebrate 10yrs of programming and we salute all of you who have helped this organization build upon this mission and deliver programming that has grown from one high school program 10yrs ago into availability of communities. 10yrs has taught us many things about how to perform our service with both our internal customers (participants) as well as external (sponsors). One area we hope to reach new levels of quality with is our ability to effectively communicate to all our customers. With a very small staff this becomes a significant challenge but one we look forward to. We hope you find the information below rewarding realizing how truly amazing it is what a team of passionate folks can do when they say…”count me in”. Our intention is to keep you excited to be part of this team.

Our numbers this year were spectacular! We hopefully have reached a sustainable rhythm with the interest to add value where we see the opportunity. Your support will go a long long way in insuring we are moving forward on several fronts.

Your support will go directly towards the following this year;
Current Programming insuring availability and quality for our participants
Continued Investment into our first Outdoor Education Center
Support of the strategic plan in identifying our growth model and plans

Within this year we will be announcing our first capital campaign in efforts to complete the North East Regional facility. We promise to keep you abreast of this effort and success.

The following are the numbers we have to date on this year’s event. We have included past yrs values along with our goals for this past year to share with you all how powerful all your efforts / support have become.

2010 Net $126,395.00 2011 Plan Net $115,000 2011 Challenge Net $161,000

2011 Actual Net $212,000.00

I hope this letter finds you in great spirits as this information is truly something to celebrate. Our dates for next year’s event are already on the calendar as May 4-6th 2012. We hope this weekend is conducive to you joining us again.

Thank you again for such passion.

Enjoy your family, enjoy our outdoors and God Bless
